This project is looking to explore the impact of child sexual abuse disclosures on non-offending, non-abused adult siblings who receive disclosures in some form. The project is split into three phases, with the first phase being a survey looking to examine if siblings experienced vicarious trauma following a disclosure of child sexual abuse.
Following on from child sexual abuse experiences becoming known to families, there is very little support available for siblings. There is also a lack of understanding and academic research examining the impact and the needs on siblings following a disclosure of child sexual abuse. It is hoped that this research will give a voice to siblings of child sexual abuse survivors. Furthermore, it is hoped that the findings of this research may inform and increase support available for siblings following on from a disclosure of child sexual abuse.
Individuals eligible to take part in the survey must be:
- Over the age of 18,
- have a sibling who has experienced child sexual abuse,
- not have experienced child sexual abuse themselves,
- not have perpetrated the abuse their sibling experienced,
- must have lived with the individual who experienced child sexual abuse during their childhood for at least 5 years, either full or part time.
If you are eligible and would like to support this important research:
This is a study with two parts, see below two information flyers. We added the second one on 19th December.
