Trauma Informed Care Needs of Male Survivors of Childhood Sexual Abuse

The aim of this research is to explore the extent and nature of Trauma‑Informed Care currently offered to adult male survivors of sexual abuse, particularly those with lived experience of childhood sexual abuse. We want to generate clear, evidence‑based recommendations to inform improvements to policy, procedures, and practice, with the goal of ensuring that services provide more appropriate, accessible, and effective support for male survivors.

Colin Docherty is a PhD student at Teesside University conducting this research into the Trauma Informed Care (TIC) needs of male survivors of CSA. He is seeking professionals who are willing to share their experiences in this area.

Who can take part?

Professionals who have experience working with or supporting adult male survivors of Childhood Sexual Abuse (CSA), from the following areas:

  • Mental Health Services
  • Social Services,
  • Third Sector Organisations,
  • Criminal Justice Settings

What will participation involve?

Participation involves a semi-structured interview exploring your professional experience of providing (or attempting to provide) Trauma Informed Care to male survivors of CSA.

Interested or have questions?

If you would like to discuss taking part, please contact the researcher directly at c.docherty@tees.ac.uk.
