On Saturday 29th November, some of the TST team will volunteer at Leamington parkrun as part of some real-world activism during the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence. We’re inviting supporters, survivors, and allies to join us in person or virtually.
What is parkrun?
Parkrun is an event where you can walk, jog, run, volunteer or simply cheer others on. Parkruns are free (but you’ll need to register beforehand!) 5k events and take place every Saturday morning in locations across the UK.
Why are we doing this?
16 Days of Activism is a global campaign running from 25th November to 10th December, with the aim to raise awareness and end gender-based violence.
But this year, we’re also sounding the alarm: The specialist sexual violence sector is experiencing an existential crisis. The demand for sexual violence services is greater than ever with less funding available and waiting lists to access service growing.
We want to do some real-world activism for the sector and connect with our local community. By showing up as a team on 29th November, we want to send a message: we’re here, we care, and we’re part of the community!
Volunteering at parkrun is a chance to show up, be visible, and engage and for our community, survivors, their loved ones, our member agencies and professionals, to come together – without pressure or expectation or disclosure.
How can you take part?
- Join us at Leamington parkrun: We’ll be there from 8am, the event starts at 9am! You don’t need to run – roles like marshalling, tail walking or barcode scanning are available if you contact leamington@parkrun.com
- Or you can show up and take part in the parkrun on 29th November. Run with others to mark 16 Days of Activism.
- Join us ‘virtually’: Walk, run or volunteer at your local parkrun (find your closest parkrun here), or log your own 5k on 29th November. Remember to register in advance.
Did you know TST had a Strava Club? Track your solidarity – You can join the club and share your activity and connect with others taking part.*
We would love for you to join us on the day, or virtually. Your presence and steps matter.
* If you’re sharing your running routes or activity maps, consider turning off precise location sharing to help protect your privacy. Strava allows you to blur the start and end points of your route. While this isn’t our area of expertise, we encourage everyone to check their privacy settings and stay safe online.
