Following PM Meeting: Lucy Duckworth Speaks on BBC Woman’s Hour

Lucy Duckworth, Policy Lead at The Survivors Trust, appeared on BBC Woman’s Hour the day after the meeting between the Prime Minister and survivors of sexual violence and abuse linked to Mohammed Fayed, Harrods and associated parties, of which we recognise are far reaching. This is the first time a Prime Minister has engaged directly with survivors connected to a single institution in this way.

In the interview, Lucy highlighted the importance of the Prime Minister hearing directly from survivors and acknowledged the courage of those who have come forward. She reinforced the message that this meeting must mark the beginning of meaningful, sustained action to address the systemic failures that allowed abuse to persist.

Lucy also drew attention to the scale of the issue, with more than 480 survivors identified to date, and emphasised the urgent need for accountability, transparency, and properly funded specialist support services.

The appearance on Woman’s Hour provides a national platform to amplify survivors’ voices and underline the collective call for reform, ensuring that the momentum generated by the meeting continues.

The meeting follows the work of The Survivors Trust and the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on the Survivors of Fayed and Harrods. This cross-party group of MPs aims to amplify survivors’ voices in Parliament, scrutinise investigations, and push for transparency and systemic change.
