The Survivors Trust is one of more than 1,500 charities that use Beacon CRM to manage organisational functions such as member contact details, our training department, and our fundraising work. We do not, and have never, used Beacon for to store service user data.
This cyber‑attack has affected charities across the UK on a significant scale, as has been widely reported in the media. At a time when demand for support around sexual violence is higher than ever and funding is lower than ever, we are devastated to have become victims of an incident that diverts vital time and resources away from our life‑changing work supporting survivors.
After informing our trustees, we followed all required procedures and reported the incident to the Information Commissioners office. (ICO) The ICO has already concluded our case and confirmed that The Survivors Trust holds no responsibility for the breach. We are also following all guidance issued by the charity commission, found here, Guidance for charities affected by the Beacon cyber security incident – GOV.UK and have discussed the scale and implications of the attack with officials at the Ministry of Justice. During a crisis of this magnitude, we want to work collectively with all those affected in the face of those who seek to disrupt our work.
We encourage all our supporters to remain alert to potential scams in the coming weeks. This includes emails or calls that appear to come from The Survivors Trust or our individual staff members, but seem unusual or request donations. The Survivors Trust will never contact individuals directly to ask for donations. All fundraising goes through our official JustGiving page and is shared on our socials.
As we continue to respond to the many requests for information we have received, we really appreciate your patience and kindness for our small, hardworking team at this challenging time.
