Act On IICSA – Press Release

Act on IICSA, led by Professor Alexis Jay, welcomes progress on the implementation of much
delayed improvements to child safeguarding. Additional funding to support survivors will help.
We recognise the commitment shown by the current government and will continue to work with
ministers on the detail.
The Inquiry into child sexual abuse ran from 2015 to 2022. Its 20 core recommendations were
designed as a package of measures specifically intended to raise safeguarding standards and
promote the welfare of children and those already harmed by child sexual abuse. They require
implementation in full to be truly effective.
Act on IICSA is committed to ensuring every recommendation made by the Inquiry comes into
existence without any further delay. This means we will continue to press the government to
introduce a much-needed post of a cabinet office minister for children, a redress scheme and
improvements to the Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme. Whilst we understand the
current financial challenges, victims and survivors of child sexual abuse deserve and must
receive the acknowledgement and recompense accorded to other victims of national tragedies.
If we are to reduce the alarming statistic of 500,000 children being sexually abused in the UK
each year, we need steadfast commitment on all 20 improvements to drive a change in culture
whilst supporting frontline professionals and victims. Child sexual abuse has been neglected
for too long. Preventing child sexual abuse must be prioritised in the upcoming government
spending review.
