Daisy’s Fundraiser

The Survivors Trust want to say a big thank you to Daisy, who raised over £1,000 for us, blogging movingly along the way. We really appreciate all of her fundraising efforts, and hope that readers will find her story below as inspirational as we did.

“When I was 18, it felt like my world was ending. I was at the beginning of a very long mental battle and had no idea how deeply I’d be affected by sexual assault. I am now nearly 21 and have just ran 21km on Dartmoor in aid of The Survivors Trust.

This is more than just a half marathon to me; it is the result of 892 days of healing and a lifetime of living with it. Asking for help can be a terrifying thing and I nearly didn’t do it – I have no idea where I’d be today if I hadn’t recognised that I could not face that battle alone. As scary as it is, there are a plethora of people out there that actively want to help survivors and I hope this fundraiser has brought some light to that.

This is for the girl who thought her life was over at 18 years old. For the people in my life that never gave up on me and showed me that there is a whole lot of strength in healing. For every single survivor of sexual assault and the battle that comes with it. And most importantly, it’s for The Survivors Trust and the incredible work they do day in and day out. Without people like them, I wouldn’t be where I am today.

I can’t put into words how grateful I am for every single donation that I’ve received. This is such a personal fundraiser for me and I feel so lucky to be able to share my story and raise money for such a wonderful organisation. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. “
