What is an ISVA?
An Independent Sexual Violence Adviser (ISVA) is someone trained to support people who have experienced rape or sexual assault. Their job is to make you feel informed, cared for, and understood.
You don’t have to report to the police to get ISVA support. They’re here to give you clear information so you can make the decisions that feel right for you.
An ISVA:
- Listens to you and tailors their support to your needs
- Explains your options, including what happens if you report to the police
- Can help you connect with other services that might be useful for your situation
- Ensures you know about your rights as a victim
- Offers emotional and practical help before, during, and after court
- Can be your main point of contact so you don’t feel alone
We believe that anyone who wants ISVA support should be able to access it for free. We do not support fee-based ISVA services, as we feel this creates barriers at a time when people need care and understanding most.
