Join our
Empowering Groups

Our Empowering Groups are for survivors, family members, close friends and carers. We want to provide a safe space where you can explore gentle movement through yoga, find calm with meditation, and express creativity with crafts, at your own pace, to have fun and learn new skills. And connect and share with others in our male peer support group.

Weekly schedule of Empowering Groups: Crafts every Tuesday at 2PM, Meditation every Wednesday at 6:30PM, Yoga every Thursday at 6PM

All you need is the internet and a device such as laptop, phone or tablet to join. With yoga and exercises you are welcome to keep cameras off and participate at your own pace.

📧To get started we invite you to a friendly welcome meeting. Email helpline@thesurvivorstrust.org to register or learn more.

💜If you can’t join our live sessions, or if you simply want support in your own time, we’ve created this space for you — a collection of empowering yoga and meditation recordings whenever you need them.

Our Welcome Meeting is a friendly first step

Taking that first step can feel overwhelming, but our Welcome Meeting is here to put you at ease. It’s not an assessment, just a warm and informal chat with Sam to help you feel comfortable before joining any of our empowering groups. Sam also leads our empowering work, so you will have a familiar face before joining your first group session.

In the welcome meeting, we:

  • Show you how to use Zoom, including the chat function (if you’re not familiar)
  • Make sure you understand that personal stories, trauma, or health details are not discussed—your privacy and the privacy of others matter.
  • Encourage you to choose your level of engagement: keep your camera on or off, listen quietly or join the conversation—it’s entirely up to you.
  • Ensure you know that support throughout the session is available, including moving to a separate space if needed.
  • Provide access to our Helpline, so support is always available when you need it.

We also ask a few simple questions, like how you heard about us, any fitness considerations for yoga, and whether there are any triggers we should be mindful of. This helps us create a supportive and safe environment for you.

What happens in the empowering sessions?

Checking in Together: At the start and end of every session, we invite participants to share how they’re feeling using a simple 1-to-5 scale—no pressure to participate, just a gentle check-in.

Respecting Boundaries: To ensure a safe space, all messages sent in the Zoom chat are visible to the entire group, and direct messaging between participants is not allowed.

Interested?

We understand that joining a new space can feel daunting, but we hope to see you at one of these in the future.
